Very strange experience with this movie. The first time I viewed this I wrote it off. Each subsequent viewing I’ve discovered more to enjoy and appreciate. Probably has more to do with understanding how it fits in with the other Heisei films. I’ve gone from disliking this movie to really enjoying it even the goofy stuff.
Seeing it directly following the Ifukube concert, quite late actually as it didn’t start until 11:45pm or so, with most of the G-Fest audience still there surely had an affect on this particular viewing. The Ifukube score was certainly more noticeable pumping loudly through the theater speakers.
Over the past year I’ve warmed up considerably to the Heisei era films. It’s this one I’ve seen the most and had the biggest reverse opinion. Initially I was disappointed when it was scheduled at G-Fest but now I’m quite happy to experience it that way.
