Viewing Notes

Man, I really like this movie. It’s like a found footage of the movie that Super 8 was trying to be. Much like that film, it’s this cast of kids that carry this film. Exceptionally so. Surprised how invested I became in their story. All the kids are strong but Ella Wahlestedt particularly so. She looks like the kid sister of Natalie Portman with equal the acting chops. She steals a few scenes from the boys. Astro (Tuck in the film) is also very good.

Overall a refreshing take on the genre both found footage and alien discovery even if some of those steady shots were hard to believe. I do love how all of it was really a way to express the bond of friendship through a childhood adventure. Definitely the kid of movie I’d want to show my kids.

Worth mentioning that the VFX are very well done. Everything here, Echo and the emotions, are palpable. It’s E.T. for the digital age.
