I enjoyed this movie so much I almost want to give it a higher rating for entertainment value. But fair is fair. While this is not a “great” movie it does a lot of things right hitting all the expected beats. I didn’t see any of the trailers so I can’t comment on how the movie was sold but I’ve read that the advertising is misleading; selling a fantasy actioner instead of what really occurs.

Regardless I like the direction they take which is a deconstruction of the character and the myth. Quite a refreshing approach on a story that’s been done so many times. Even I wondered why they bothered making this movie. Now it makes sense. I also love the cast and team around Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules. They really add a lot with very little in the way of unnecessary exposition.

This is definitely a movie I’d watch again. Being a longtime fan of Raimi’s Hercules/Xena series, this movie is totally my thing. Hope it finds its audience and does well.
