First film of the third day at Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Fest. Weinberg told me on the first day that this was the only one he didn’t like. I now know why; it’s not very good. Very amateurish in many ways besides looking like it was shot on Best Buy grade camcorders. I get that it’s an independent low budget movie but it’s as if no thought was put into the location scouting. None of the settings match the characters or situations.
For example, the lead couple head to a small town in OK, yet the house they visit looks like a standard home in the suburbs. Way too nice given its supposed location. The redneck convenience store is so modern and well stocked it’s bizarre to have these old backwoods geezers running that joint.
I think the story and premise could work had more thought gone into the actual production. Overall it’s just not done well and therefore not very good.
Since I missed the beginning (due to the stupid congested traffic around the convention center) I will view this again. Can’t say I’m looking forward to it.
At the end of the festival Scott said it was basically a favor to someone to get that film in the fest. Was surprised that the cast and director came for it.
