Viewing Notes

The title could’ve been PIRATES vs BANDITS vs NAVY vs PIRATES vs WHALES. Would’ve been more appropriate as that is exactly what occurs. Won’t ever be considered a great movie but it’s damn entertaining. Has a few hat tips to the POTC series including a huge action centerpiece with a giant watermill wheel.

The CGI is pretty outstanding especially all the underwater and whale scenes. Son Ye-jin is completely entrancing. She’s almost too pretty to be a pirate captain (unlike all the other pirates that look like pirates; dirty and scarred up). Fun movie that I’d watch again. Definitely a big screen kind of flick with all the open sea cinematography.
