Viewing Notes

First film on Day 5 at FF2014, the latest from Studio Ghibli and director Isao Takahata. Lush hand-painted cell animation of soft pastels captures a poignant fable of longing and loss. Steeped in tradition, KAGUYA is more about misguided ambition that sits comfortably next to any rags over riches cautionary tale. Didn’t strike the same chords with me as it did for others but still a beautiful, moving animated feature.
