Viewing Notes

Fifth movie at the Music Box of Horrors and easily my favorite experience of the event. First it was shot off LaserDisc personally owned by director John McNaughton (also MBT indicated they also used John McNaughton’s LD player). He agreed to participate in the event if MBT screened this film, which is rarely seen and not available in other formats.

Had heard this wasn’t a good movie but still one to watch. Half true because this is a fucking great B-movie! Sure, Rae Dawn Chong is awful but the story and visual effects are terrific. It’s kinda like if STARMAN was a horror movie. An alien in transformed to a human and must continually replace it’s head to survive on earth.

The alien is learning the basics of human nature and characteristics as he goes on his murdering ways. The subplot with the vile criminal is also pretty good as it crosses path with the alien. Lots of comedy beats in an otherwise serious movie.

Definitely a new discovery and one I hope to see again and share with others if possible.

The Q&A was great because John McNaughton is still quite bitter about the entire production and the cast. Was a bit awkward but still funny.
