Overview

“Where are the rivers of blood and mountains of bones?!”
Yeah, I’m putting this in my 31 in 31 Challenge for October because of the leanings toward horror in this “family” movie. The townspeople are terrified of the boxtrolls, the snatcher “murders” the town’s greatest inventor, a character is nearly publicly executed by fire, etc etc. The real monsters are the people. As is the case in these animated fantasy tales.
The story is so-so. The animation is stellar. I honestly could not tell whether this was digital or stop motion. If this truly is entirely stop motion it is an amazing feat esp. the swooping shots above and below the action. I would LOVE to see how this was made. Also a really fine voice cast of nearly all Brits / UK folks. Wish there was a stronger central story to grasp but still a beautiful movie to watch.
Curious how much the 3D would have added but I believe the movie was shot in 3D so it probably looks pretty good. Not sure it needs it as it’s already marvelous to view.
