Viewing Notes

With the SPECTRE news that hit (the latest Bond film announced for 2015) I decided to hit my blu-ray set again for some old school Spectre. Oddly this was the next movie up for my Bond project but also falls neatly into my Childhood Movie Project. Definitely haven’t seen this since maybe the mid-80s I’m guessing since I barely recalled most of it.

Weird because I thought I was more familiar with this film but had it mixed up with Diamonds Are Forever. Parts of Thunderball came back to me esp. the shark stuff and insane underwater battle. Not one of the better Connery Bond flicks but still enjoy this more than Goldfinger. Didn’t realize this movie was over 2 hours until I logged it. Moves at a good pace that doesn’t make it feel that long.

I really like how Spectre is first introduced here. All the Bond girls are terrific despite none really having a big role within the main plot. They are more like accessories than critical to the story, which I suppose is true of most Bond films. The theft of atomic bombs carries more weight than Goldfinger’s dumb plan but I still don’t understand how a boat can crash without detonating the bomb its carrying.
