Was super stoked when I first heard that CCS was bringing this docu to Chicago with Andrew in attendance. This is a project that Andrew started over 8 years ago and I really didn’t know if it would ever get made. It was great to have Andrew there to go into detail about the process and why it went dark for 3 years (because of Machete Maidens).
Since I had kickstarted the project when it came back around I was eager to see this so I’ve had this day circled on the calendar since it was announced. The movie really is everything I could’ve wanted. It’s like a mystery that unfolds into this tragic journey about the real man behind Weng Weng (Ernesto) and more so a fascinating look at Filipino cinema.
After 90 minutes of that we were treated to nearly 2 hours of Andrew discussing the film and answering questions. Many illuminating stories about his process and the production. Definitely an evening I won’t soon forget.
