World Without End (1956)

Directed by Edward Bernds

Science Fiction | Adventure

Overview

Four astronauts returning from man’s first mission to Mars enter a time warp and crash on a 26th Century Earth devastated by atomic war.  At first unaware where they are, but finding the atmosphere safe to breathe, they start exploring and find themselves in a divided future where disfigured mutants living like cavemen inhabit the surface, while the normals live comfortably below the surface but are dying as a race from lack of natural water, air and sunlight.

Viewing Notes

Finally acquired more Rod Taylor films including this one.

Some amazing fashion in the year 2508 that looks reminiscent of 1950s fashion. At least the hairstyles!

Goofy as expected for 50s sci-fi that is very much a precursor to Planet of the Apes. However, instead of apes taking over, here they are primitive one-eyed cavemen (not cyclops). Our heroes must teach what’s left of civilized humanity to stand up and fight against the primitives to regain their children and kickstart a new civilization.

Sounds better as I write this than it’s portrayed in the movie but not a bad watch.
