The idea is simple / A married woman and a single man meet / They love, they argue, fists fly / A dog strays between town and country / The seasons pass / The man and woman meet again / The dog finds itself between them / The other is in one, / the one is in the other / and they are three / The former husband shatters everything / A second film begins: / the same as the first, / and yet not / From the human race we pass to metaphor / This ends in barking / and a baby’s cries / In the meantime, we will have seen people talking of the demise of the dollar, of truth in mathematics and of the death of a robin.” - JLG

Can’t say this is a great film. Or a good film for that matter but it’s certainly an interesting film. It’s as though Godard had home video footage of his dog then shot another movie to sew into that and form a loose narrative that really doesn’t make much sense. Intentionally so. The 3D is unnecessary and yet adds another layer of surrealism to an already nonconventional construct.
As the movie began I felt as though I could watch hours of this format. After 45 minutes or so I was glad it only runs 70 minutes. The 3D and funky audio gave me a headache. Glad to have seen this as it was intended but not sure I could recommend.
