Overview

Jimmy Wang Yu plays a young kid who heads off to Dragon Valley to meet the childhood friend who was promised as his bride. When he gets there, he finds that the family of the bride might not be an entirely honest bunch of people though. Viewing Notes

Bonus movie thanks to El Rey Network (happened to have the station on when this started so I hit record!). Definitely an older Shaw film with more emphasis on the melodrama between the characters than action. In fact the action is almost de-emphasized in lieu of the drama. Also employs a bit of misdirect to tell the story and add to the conflict.

I like baby Jimmy Wang Yu and that he’s totally lacking in skills here. In fact his counterpart, Chin Ping, is a better fighter “boxer” than he is. There’s a great shadow character here in the Red Lady portrayed by Ivy Ling Po. I enjoyed the movie but it does get bogged down by setting up the conflicts with the Jin family of bandits and under-develops the Red Lotus Clan.

Still worth the view to see many of these early stars of Shaw Studios. Esp. the young Wang Yu.
