Was looking forward to viewing this again since Fantastic Fest. Wondered if it evoke the same emotional reaction and live up to my initial viewing at the fest (the festival tends to cloud many things due to the excitement, exhaustion and environment).
Happy to report that my feelings have not changed. This is still a remarkable movie in many ways. I had forgotten how deliberately slow paced it is. Like really slow and almost dreamlike. That worked the most on me during this viewing as it reminded of what it was like living in those teenage years when time was forever and everything seemed to move so slow. Mitchell captures this so well. I just love the idea of “forever teenage now” and not associating to any particular time frame (ie. no one is seen using a mobile phone but this isn’t a period flick). The period in the movie is the same time that all teens experience.
