Viewing Notes

Damn. Would have guessed this was a mid-80s flick. Feels early 90s. Plus Ti Lung looks so old. It’s as if gained 15+ years in 5 years. Even Brigitte Lin looks older. So weird.

The thing about watching Ti Lung brawling in a non-Kung Fu movie is that you expect him to break out the moves at any given moment. But he doesn’t. Yet you want him to. The upside here is that the brawls look and feel like what a real life brawl would be. Dirty and nasty and clumsy and brutal.

Not a bad mid-80s HK flick but weighed down by so much melodrama. The score does not help matters. In fact, this movie would be better if it didn’t have the background music which is so damn distracting and awful.

Plot is straight forward with Lung’s character seeking to get his girl back out of the clutches of the evil mob boss who’s also in league with corrupt cops. Brigitte Lin isn’t given much to do other than be a punching bag, which is unfortunate given her talent. Still amazed at how old she and Lung appear given the year. Maybe I’ve just seen so many older films recently with Lung it’s jarring to see him here.
