Overview

Hailed as possibly the greatest classical weapons movie ever made and starring world-renowned martial arts master, director and action-choreographer, Sammo Hung. This film showcases some of the most spectacular and intricate weapons duels ever committed to film.  Sammo Hung and Lau Kar Wing play dual roles as both masters and students of the sword and spear styles of kung fu. Comic mayhem ensues when the students get kidnapped and the masters must rescue them.

Viewing Notes

Easily the best of the 4 movies on the Essentials dvd I got from Netflix elevated by the superior talents of Sammo Hung and Lau Kar-Wing in dual roles both as Masters and as students. The final 30 minutes is some serious kung fu action choreography in which only those two could have orchestrated (rather than another action director guiding them). The maneuvers are so complex and the timing is so precise.

What drops the movie a notch is some of the tedium through the first hour to get to that point. The training stuff isn’t that great and the humor can be distracting at times. I’d definitely watch again just to see these two legends sharing the screen and battling together.
