Duel for Gold (1971)

Directed by Chor Yuen

Eastern | Action | Crime

Overview

Soon-to-be legendary director Chu Yuan had just joined the Shaw Brothers when he helmed this thriller of bickering bandits. Audiences loved watching three pairs of cunning male and female crooks trying to steal a million gold taels from the Fu Lai Treasury House…not knowing that one of them is actually an undercover hero. Even without him, there’s no honor amongst thieves, so the double-crosses and deadly duels come fast and furious, all choreographed by Hsu Erh-niu.

Viewing Notes

Movies like this make me happy I get El Rey Network. Sure, I hate the commercials but I likely wouldn’t be able to view this Shaw flick otherwise. Of course I could try to find a file or the DVD but it’s nice to have these deeper cut films available on the channel.

More sword fighting than kung fu but there’s some damn bloody sword action. Basically no one can be trusted once the gold is stolen. The greed gets the best of everyone. The voice over is hilarious. Great cast of five all fighting each other the gold including Ivy Ling Po and Wang Ping as badass sisters. Of course Lo Lieh is here with the upper hand on the rest. Good flick!
