Viewing Notes

Second movie on Day 3 at Noir City Chicago and another treat to see on the big screen in 35mm. Laird Cregar is a brilliant composer that lapses into violent spells triggered by cacophonous sounds. He falls for the wrong girl and things get worse. Pretty cool to set this during November 5th in England and use that drive a very dark sequence of murder. The final performance is rather amazing.

Eddie Muller said that if Cregar had lived longer (this was his last film before his death) there might not have been a Vincent Price. I thought about that a lot during this viewing. Cregar definitely has that particular quality that gave Price a career.

Overall an outstanding film with a great tagline, “Murder with Music!”
