Viewing Notes

Another movie crossed off my big screen bucket list!

I’ve been wanting to see this on the big screen for a few years now. I’ve missed at least a dozen opportunities to do so over just the last couple of years due to schedule conflicts or being out of town. Finally had my chance to see it big tonight thanks to Nick D’s Film Club at Muvico (and heads up from Mike Schindler on Twitter).

Although I would have preferred 35mm, the DCP restoration was pristine. It truly was magical to see this at Muvico with excellent projection and sound. Janet Leigh looks even more exquisite on the big screen. Nick says this is his favorite Welles film over Kane. I can’t agree with him there as Kane is an all-timer for me but this is a damn good film with a stellar performance from Welles.

I’d love to see the cut that Universal originally released before this “1998 alternate version” was released.
