This is one weird ass movie. Basically 4 different and bizarre stories meld together into a somewhat conventional slasher flick. It’s as if a Tarantino influenced filmmaker wanted to do horror instead of the usual crime but without the snappy dialogue or great characters.
That probably sounds like a bad thing but in fact this is an interesting movie for what it does manage to do; weave these characters together to essentially form unlikely bonds because of the slasher threat. I really can’t go into the characters without giving away a lot of the movie but suffice it to say I haven’t seen anything quite like this.
Where it lacks is the lack of sympathy or investment in the characters. They have their own issues none redeeming and given little to do until things gets nuts towards the end. And it does get batshit with the slasher aspect.
I went to the 9pm screening (after my earlier viewing of RE-KILL, both part of the After Dark Horrorfest). When I walked into the theater a row a women were abruptly surprised and asked each other if they recognized me. Then they asked me how I knew about the movie and that they didn’t think anyone would be there except them. One of the women was the mother of a producer on the film.
They were so obnoxious leading up the start and took photos of the screen when the movie began I was worried. But they were mostly quiet with a few audible gasps during the graphic scenes. I’m pretty sure that gaggle don’t watch horror very often.
