Viewing Notes

Really enjoyed this fantasy adventure about monsters and monster hunters. Nice fight sequences and well-developed characters mixed with colorful, cute animation makes for a fun, family-oriented flick. Not sure how this became the biggest box office movie of all time in China because it’s not that great but whatever. Maybe it’s a four quadrant thing over there.

Anyways I was entertained and would watch it again esp. for the excellent Bai Baihe who looks great doing action and comedy. She’s a treat. The rest of the cast is pretty good and even Eric Tsang isn’t all that annoying.

3D seems like an afterthought here as it doesn’t really add much to the experience. Was disappointed that AMC River East put this in the smallest screen (granted there were only 3 of us in this screening) with “exit” signs on each side of my view. Made for an annoying experience.

It was nice to see on the big screen just wish I could have seen it on a bigger screen in a better theater.
