Nice approach to a classic western siege film. Oddly a little flat and dark in contrast. Even the daytime shots are dim. I like the performances from each of the leads but it feels like something is missing. Most of the movie is told in flashbacks which by the time all are revealed it’s strange that this conflict is only now being surfaced.
The slow ride through the first two thirds is fine making the final third more of an impact. However that siege seems all too brief given the stakes. It’s paced so quickly that build-up feels wasted.
