Basically Stephen Chow’s AVATAR. Overall fun film spliced with real thrills and genuine concern for the characters. Chow’s slapstick comedy half works in most cases (my predominantly Chinese audience ate it all up) and when it does it’s great. The humor is the strongest aspect (over the heavy-handed “save the species” message) followed by the cast. However, nothing here is on level with Chow’s earlier hits so it is surprising it broke box office records. Probably chalk it up to the AVATAR thing.
