In the wake of a Supreme Court decision to outlaw the death penalty, California passes an initiative that designates San Bruno island as a dumping spot for first-degree murder convicts, free to do what they like except leave. The main camp of convicts is controlled by the tyrannical Bobby, who rules with an iron hand, and the women are used as sex slaves. A.J. and a group of more free-minded murderers have escaped and gone into hiding. When A.J. and his men liberate the women from Bobby’s custody, tensions mount to an all-out confrontation for control of the island.

Although this isn’t a great movie it is highly watchable for being a prime example of the exploitation of its time. In fact I think they could’ve taken this farther (and at times it teeters on the edge getting darker but pulls back). Lots of mayhem and bad decisions to drive the story, which sadly holds this back from being really good or great. That part is a bit frustrating because you know they just wouldn’t make such dumb decisions if this were really happening. Ah well. Still a fun watch esp. to see Tom Selleck in a supporting role with a wooden delivery of his lines. All the women are terrific tough girls in their jeans and cut-offs.
