Viewing Notes

Literally a movie about pigs. I suppose there’s an allegory here with these poor folks trying to get along under shitty circumstances. This is a tragic story. Not a particularly easy watch given the treatment of the both the people and pigs. How the US Navy sailors are portrayed is alarming and probably accurate. What I do like is how Imamura frames his shots and all the angles he uses to create tension. Cool to see Ko Nishimura pop up in a small cameo.
