Viewing Notes

Enjoyed this quite a bit, more than I expected given the shitty early reviews and WOM. Maybe my expectations were appropriately set going into it? Regardless, I found the emotional beats to be effective and on occasion had me in tears. Dusty tears not crying, mind you. I like the role given to Jennifer Lawrence as the reluctant leader. Magneto is just great as the conflicted murderer. New cast is fun for the most part. Also like how Wolverine is handled and not the focus of the film.

Not crazy about the timeline adjustments or making the movie so beholden to that 1983 year. Probably the dumbest decision was to make this 10 years later yet not have anyone age. This could’ve easily been set a couple years after DOFP and been fine.

I’ll have to read some of the negative reviews to get a idea of why this movie was hated so much by critics. Agree it doesn’t have the charm of the last two movies (this one is hella more dire in tone) but I’m glad they gave plenty of character beats to Quicksilver and Nightcrawler in addition to the stars.

I’d love to see this movie again but it’s so fucking long! The length didn’t bother me like it has for others but it’s a commitment to sit through again. Oddly I have yet to revisit the previous two films despite mostly liking them.

I wish they had given Jubilee more to do and at least introduced her properly.

I’m pretty sure this superhero movie has the highest death toll of all superhero movies.
