Viewing Notes

Arrived and seated at Northbrook Library for a 35mm presentation of this for their “Spoof” month movie theme only to receive some disappointing news: the print they received was an Answer print, basically the first print struck from the interpositive. However, this print was sans the audio. And shockingly no DCP has been made of this movie so they had to go with a Blu-ray for the screening.

I was sad because the 35mm print was a big factor in making the trip in addition to this movie being on my 90s rewatch project and that I didn’t see this movie on the big screen. Fortunately the Blu looked good on the big screen and it was cool to see this in theater for the first time.

This movie still holds up despite all the jokes being burned into our collective conscious. It’s really a clever spoof that references a few Bond movies primarily Diamonds Are Forever and Dr No (and of course the nod to Goldfinger’s Oddjob). Having not seen this movie for 15+ years it’s wild to note all the references. Also wild to see all the actors in this movie like Will Ferrell and Carrie Fisher in bit roles. Odd I was thinking about Elizabeth Hurley the other day in that we never hear about her anymore yet there was a period of time in the mid-90s when she her light was shining bright.
