Viewing Notes

Yep I enjoyed this. But I can understand why critics wouldn’t like this. It has a few issues the biggest one is that this story is so large that telling it within 2 hours doesn’t do it justice. It would be better served in a mini-series over a 6 episode arc, at least. The viewer is dropped into this world with no previous knowledge and expected to pick up on things rather quickly.

I’m familiar with the games but even I was wondering what was going on in various parts. I’ll probably go see it again because it is a gorgeous movie and the Orcs and creatures are rendered so well. Paula Patton is a real badass but I did feel sorry that she doesn’t get more to do given she’s central to the plot.

At the very least this is the kind of movie to see on an enormous screen. It’s stunning to see these environments and backdrops. I’m glad this movie is doing well overseas because it’s sure to bomb in the US if my screening was any indication.
