Second movie in as many days where Gordon Liu is portraying a bad guy! Here he is “Long Hair” a gangster with terrible looking long hair. Didn’t recognize him at first. He’s also in a scene where he has sex with a woman while a bullet is being removed from his back. Haven’t seen that before.
The cool thing about this movie is that even though Donnie Yen is top billed (crazy given the year early in his career) it’s not really his film. This is more a Sharla Cheung vehicle as she’s the lead agent but *SPOILER* she’s sidelined and second fiddle agents Carrie Ng and Takajo Fujimi step up (both badasses in their own right). Donnie Yen is never really the lead given he’s a supporting agent that gets called in to assist but he does have a few choice scenes.
This is a pretty good action crime thriller but suffers from so many of the best sequences shot in the dark or low lighting so it’s hard to see all the great action. The best is a fight near the end at a campsite where all the primary actors are fighting in a huge brawl but it’s in the middle of night.
Another film where I wonder if there’s a better home video release available. Oh Michael Woods is in this as a totally over the top villain with a fun fight sequence. And of course Gordon Liu and Donnie Yen have to fight. It’s like witnessing one star rising as the other is diminishing.
