Overview
Off-duty cop John McClane is gripped with a feeling of déjà vu when, on a snowy Christmas Eve in the nation’s capital, terrorists seize a major international airport, holding thousands of holiday travelers hostage. Renegade military commandos led by a murderous rogue officer plot to rescue a drug lord from justice and are prepared for every contingency except one: McClane’s smart-mouthed heroics.

Viewing Notes
Saw this on release a couple of times then maybe once afterwards but it’s been maybe 20 years at least. Fun seeing some familiar faces I wouldn’t have known back then.
Maybe because when I saw this (and enjoyed it) I had a rather positive view of this movie. Revisiting it now it’s clear that this is not a very good movie. Mostly due to McClane rising to superhero level in his abilities and the implausible nature of the various plot points particularly the major shootout in Dulles Airport. They do not close the airport or investigate! During the holidays! I get that it’s 1990 but really? I gotta think that incident would things on pause. Also the models and explosions are ridiculous. Another thing that drives me nuts, which I wouldn’t have noticed as much on my original viewing, is how the script / dialogue is fan service for the first DIE HARD movie. Constant reminders and McClane talking to himself to let everyone know he’s that cop. Ugh.
Oh and that plot point with the marines and their blanks and no one notices that they’re firing blanks. Ugh!
So much Ugh in this movie.
