Kinda nuts that my library has this but I think they have nearly all the Scream Factory blu-ray releases from a cursory scan of the shelf. This is another one I saw on the shelf at Family Video that I considered renting. Glad I didn’t.
This is a weird Taiwanese production with several US ex-pats now working in Hong Kong like Andy On and Jessica C, the top two billed actors here (and both speak English on the Mandarin language track). Also I guess Joe Chien likes zombies bc this is the second or third zombie movie he’s made. Normally anything with “zombie” in the title would be enough to keep me away these days but I was intrigues bc it was Asian produced. So naturally I was curious.
The story is moderately interesting with a mix of good cops and bad cops in an old apartment block full of drug dealers (yeah THE RAID comparisons notwithstanding) facing a zombie outbreak until it becomes FIGHT CLUB. Of course this isn’t even half as good as THE RAID or FC but had it riffed them more it might actually be good. As it stands this isn’t very good with too much CG blood and violence that looks obvious. And too many stereotypical characters like the drug dealers and bad cops.
Interesting side note: Andy and Jessica starting dating and eventually married.
