Viewing Notes

Finally watching this grey market dvd I got from Damon Foster a few years ago at G-Fest. Did realize until logging it here that this movie was released in 1966. Totally thought this was an 80s movie or maybe 70s at the earliest. But thinking about the wild sword & sandals flicks that were made by Toho Studies at the time it makes sense that Toei would follow suit and make their own fantasy adventure movies.

This is fun movie that deserves a proper release in Japanese. It’s possible there’s an official Japanese DVD out there but this dub looks to be from a VHS copy from the occasional tracking lines that appear. Willing to bet this version is also on YouTube. It’s poorly cropped as well. Fortunately it’s not too distracting. I’m guessing this movie was an inspiration for Miike’s NINJA KIDS.
