Private viewing! However kinda sad that people didn’t come out to support this Fathom event. But given that it’s out on DVD tomorrow I guess it didn’t matter. As a throwback to the ‘66 film this is a pleasant experience with plenty of attention to recapturing that look and feel in animated form. It’s mainly the dialog and script that provides the biggest homage in addition to casting Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar reprising their roles.
However, that was the biggest detractor for me; they *sound* old as those voices no longer fit the characters on screen. In fact, Newmar sounds like a man pretending to have a woman’s voice doing all the lines in a weird falsetto. Even with some choice lines these voices are sharp and often sound out of breath like they’re struggling to get the words out. These are some clunky lines, again to stay true to the corny scripting from the 60s show, and not the easiest to deliver smoothly.
I like the story but it would have been better to use voice actors that can mimic the original voices then cast West, Ward and Newmar in supporting roles as a wick to the original series.
