Man, what a frustrating movie. It’s like a real movie with another movie layered on in MST3K style for who in the fuck knows why. Initially I thought I was watching the director’s commentary then realized “no, that’s the intent of the movie” and yet there seems to be a real movie that was filmed they are commenting on. Confusing as this sounds it’s a very stupid way to present this.
The actual movie that was shot featuring Stephen Rea doesn’t appear to be half bad and looks interesting as the plot synapsis describes. Yet in every description incl. the DVD box it never mentions that this apparently a “lost film” that these other guys have and make comments on regarding the film production. Seriously, WTF.
If this was just the actual movie without the commentary it would probably be a decent watch. However, with the awfully unfunny commentary it makes this painful to watch. As a result it just seems like a slap in the face to the actors in the actual movie as though it wasn’t worthy to stand on its own… so lets put in a couple of jokesters to watch the movie and make fun of it. UGH
