When three of the Venom Mob went on their own to form a new production company this is one of the films they made (directed by two of the Venoms, Lu Feng and Chiang Sheng, plus Chang Cheh, who probably didn’t have that much input here and only served in name to help the promotion; he’s also a producer). Anyways this not a very good movie. Despite the talent (honorary Venom Ricky Cheng is also in this), the film lack a cohesive narrative and suffers poor editing and lighting.
There’s a few plot points going on within the story but each is not conveyed well. Also with so much of this film shot in the dark / low lighting it doesn’t help matters. One of the problems here could be having three people doing the directing, possibly with each taking a one of the sub-plots then trying to weave them together (really only two directors but still I can believe some conflicts arose). Very hard to get a sense of what is going on with these characters within the story.
This bad transfer of the US version “Attack of the Venoms” on Amazon certainly does not improve things. There’s an interesting story here especially with the theatre troupe, the ghost element and Chiang Sheng’s flamboyant role but it’s not working in structure.
