Viewing Notes

Despite not being to follow half of what was happening I enjoyed this movie. On par with the previous film, which I also enjoyed (hated 2 and 3, however). If I understand the plot correctly, they need to get Merlin’s staff to stop the Transformer Queen from devouring the Earth. Yet they take every possible long route to get to this with a bunch of extra side plotting and scenes just because… ? Maybe Michael Bay had all these ideas and wanted to squeeze them into the movie so they wrote and wrote more making the film extra bloated.

I think there’s a much better tighter film in there if they just intro’d the old team and the London setup with Laura Haddock (who thankfully has more to do here than be “dying mom” a la Guardians). Bring these two groups together then chase the staff to the final battle. But there’s so much more junk in here that maybe seemed cool on paper but just wastes screentime (the intro of all those imprisoned Decepticons is just one example).

Because it’s so long and overstuffed it makes it hard to revisit. But there are things I want to revisit. I’ll probably watch the previous film again then go see this at the $4 theater.
