This is the perfect slice of late 70s horror that I love. While it’s not a “great” movie by definition it has all the hallmarks of what I enjoy about horror cinema from that period. Probably has more to do with growing up in the 70s and seeing many of these films on late night TV or HBO. This is one that I do believe I originally saw on HBO but only recalled bits of it. Watching it now I finally understand what was the deal with the old dying man and the cats.
It’s a novel spin on Ten Little Indians, a mystery sub-genre I really love. Need to probably use that as a tag for all the movies that have this plot device. Cool to see young stud Sam Elliot here. Has he ever been not good??
**Spoiler**
The movie commits a cinema sin that drives me crazy. When Jacques, during the final segment, has a shotgun but it’s firing like a rifle… literally creating bullet holes like a rifle (when it shoots a hole thru the car window) and makes the sound of a bullet shot. It’s distracting because it’s so wrong. That drops the movie half a star for me. :-(
