Viewing Notes

Quite a film about the lives of a family living in Hiroshima and Kure during the last couple years of WWII with a focus on one young woman’s journey through that period. What she endures is heartbreaking yet she perseveres.

Viewing this so soon after THE BATTLESHIP ISLAND makes for a fascinating double; seeing the Korean POV from Hashima Island then through the eyes of the Japanese civilians across the bay in Hiroshima. Both movies experience the atomic bomb and the impact of each is still same. Quite powerful to juxtapose these two moments.
