Estonian black magic werewolf movie to close the day at ChiFilmFest. Definitely was high on my most anticipated list once I found it in the program (not listed in After Dark but rather International).
Wild, wintery folk-horror fantasy of lovelorn youth with stunning black & white photography. Humorous at times yet tragic. This movie would pair well with THE WHITE REINDEER, which I just saw the day before.
There’s a lot going on in this movie between the witchcraft and spells and deals with the devil and the plague. I’m glad this was picked up by Oscilloscope Laboratories so I know I will be able to see it again. Also a perfect fit for them.
Being set in winter plays perfectly to the b&w photography. It’s really stunning. I also love the weird possessed kratt devices (which provide the humor component). Plenty of amazing faces in this movie full of life and texture. Definitely won’t forget this movie anytime soon.
