Viewing Notes

Cinepocalypse Day 6/Movie 5: billed as a secret screening we were initially treated to BARNEY’s GREAT ADVENTURE on 35mm as a joke (for some reason Music Box has the first reel of this movie). This chicanery really tested the audience that stuck around in hopes of seeing something really cool (it’s a secret screening after all). After 20 minutes or so of Barney they finally got this film, IT CAME FROM THE DESERT, loaded up. Suffice it to say, a good chunk of the audience cleared out within the first 20 minutes of this sci-fi action comedy giant ant attack movie. It’s akin to the kind of film you’ll find on SyFy Saturday night with a slightly larger budget than The Asylum standard. Not everyone’s groove and a few people who stayed for this midnighter were pissed. Ah well. The movie is like a spiritual sequel to THEM! and I had fun with it but I wish it hadn’t been in the midnight slot on a school night.
