Viewing Notes

As far as epic biblical features go this one isn’t so bad when it’s focused on the action rather than the melodrama. I honestly didn’t know this was a religious feature but all the christian film trailers before it made it quite clear what I was in for. I do think it’s funny that Samson calls out to God to give him strength in moments of need (when he’s battling 100s of soldiers) and God gives him the power to which Samson murders all these dudes. “Thank you, Lord!”

Jackson Rathbone is a decent smarmy textbook villain but it wears it well. Billy Zane underacts as the king. Needed more Rutger Hauer. Overall nothing terrific here and really not worth the 2 hours unless you really want to see a straightforward biblical take on this story. Oh there’s a story break with a “Many Years Later” on screen yet no one has aged at all. Samson just has a fake beard now. Also they wear too much eye-liner in those olden days.
