TKU-TV served up another movie that I did not want to miss: a Kinji Fukasaku flick that isn’t readily available. Guessing there’s a grey market disc out there since the subtitles on the stream were pretty good.

This is a great movie and one I’d love to see Arrow obtain and release. Basically horror revenge chanbara with a Shakespearian story. The story is about a samurai musician Iyemon and his clan’s desire to seek revenge for the forced seppuku of their Lord Asano by the Kira clan. Iyemon rescues a prostitute, the beautiful Oiwa, and she becomes pregnant. As this happens one of Kira’s elders wants Iyemon to wed his mute granddaughter Oume. Drama ensues that results in a wild finale between the Asano clan and Kira clan. Also the biwa music that the samurai perform is terrific. 

Hopefully one day I’ll be able to view this without being locked to a broadcast format via my phone. I love TKU for bringing titles like this to their programming but being forced to view via Ustream is a drag. Through the desktop website the commercials are a drag and super invasive (the one’s during this viewing were very long so I opted to watch via the app on my phone). The stream via the app would occasionally just stop and start. Not ideal viewing at all.
