Viewing Notes

Mostly like this movie but obvious cheapy camera (iPhone in this case) detracts as Soderbergh compensates with digital FX and camera angles. The plot devices around detaining Sawyer in this mental institution are more frustrating (“she’s crazy so why should we believe her?”) and how poorly lit most of the hospital is becomes annoying. I get that this story is more of an indictment on these types of shady businesses but the effort to really pour it on gets tedious here. Fortunately Claire Foy does her best within these confines to make a believable character and of course have the viewer wanting her to get out of these awful situation.

I’d also add that due to how this film was made it might be better served watching at home on TV rather than a giant movie screen.
