Viewing Notes

Moving onto the second chapter in this series. IMDb trivia indicates this was crowdfunded. Curious if that means just this film or the series. Need to investigate.

This installment is a little better than the first movie bc it doesn’t have to set the table w/the characters outside of a short recap of the end of the first movie. Still low budget and cheap FX but better character arcs esp. with Merak the lead and her journey w/learning magic and what she truly is. Creates justified conflict w/in her party. I like her but have grown fond of Teela the healer.

Figured out why I like these; they have the same look and feel and tone of the syndicated fantasy tv I watched a lot in the 90s (Xena, Hercules, Lost World, etc.). Basically each film would be like two episodes.

One thing that had me thinking is how movies like this (a series of films, no less) gets made and I have no idea about them (and many, many others of its ilk). Even with all the movie news / writers I follow I still am out of the loop on these kinds of films. Question becomes how does one discover or learn of these? Where does one hear of these?

I’d like to find that circle of discussion.
