Overview

After being brutally murdered in a gangster-style execution, Kensuke Hagane (Tsuyoshi Ujiki) finds himself brought back to life by a mad scientist and rebuilt as a robot-human hybrid with a serious thirst for vengeance and the tools to carry it out. Takashi Miike directs this action-packed sci-fi thriller that takes its cues from the more mainstream Robocop but amps up the violence for maximum effect.

Viewing Notes

Thought I had seen this but I guess not. Always down for more Ren Osugi and Kazuki Kitamura.

Didn’t realize “full metal” was literal. Also didn’t realize Miike participated in that weird Japanese sci-fi wave in the 90s. This movie is longer than it needs to be to convey the story but I appreciate the gritty DIY attitude in this low budget affair. This could easily be remade today with a larger budget and better FX.

Also needs a newer, cleaner release. This DVD looks like shit. Basically another one for Arrow to take over and clean up.
