Lovely romance drama often captured with warm lens and a summer palette, this is heartening yet maddeningly tragic. Flawed but I like it. Saoirse Ronan in a period piece is pure joy. The coda should be removed (it’s very silly and unnecessary); it steals the the power of the true finale. Everything up that is really quite nice.
