Viewing Notes

Loose reimagining of Johnnie To’s DRUG WAR, which I didn’t know going in but there’s a sequence that happens where I was like, “whoa this is just like when they did this in DRUG WAR… but this isn’t exactly the same premise.” Then another sequence occurs where I’m like, “what. another story beat that is just like DRUG WAR??” Then I realized this must be based on the same story with some changes.

All that said, this is decent crime thriller but even without knowing this was a loose remake I guessed what was going on in the first 15 minutes. I chalk that up to having seen enough movies and recognizing the intentional misdirects to throw off the audience.

There are things here I that I like better than DRUG WAR. I’ll have to revisit that one again soon to compare.
