MoviePass hack bc they pulled most screenings. Really dumb but I’m glad I could see this on the big screen bc it is totally a big screen movie. Wildly imaginative character design and SFX. Tsui Hark has flare for big fantasy action set pieces and makes a truly entertaining movie here. It’s so dazzling it occasionally feels overwhelming trying to follow everything that’s happening. Even minor characters (the magicians) are interesting. Maybe the only drawback to having so many moving parts is that some story beats don’t get as much time like the assassin and her relationship which I really enjoyed that character and interaction.
Now I wanna go back and revisit the other Detective Dee films bc they’re a blur to me now but I’d like to see how they fit together.
