When his experiments into a powerful new anesthetic go hideously awry, respected physician Dr. Jekyll transforms into the hideous Jack Hyde. As his wife Elisabeth passes her time in charitable work, rehabilitating the district’s fallen women, Hyde is drawn into an escalating cycle of lust and murder that seems to know no bounds.

wow what a bizarre mashup of horror stories: Jekyll & Hyde meet Jack the Ripper in an oddly homoerotic thriller. Saying “oddly” because of the overt female sexuality and imagery used almost as cover for the inherent homosexuality of Hyde. This is probably intentional.
Also, what woman, prostitute or otherwise, thinks that Hyde is even remotely attractive to want to leave a crowded space with him WHEN THERE ARE PROSTITUTES BEING MURDERED.
Anyways, this is a rather spirited Norman Bates redux for Anthony Perkins. Love the ambition to make this hypersexual movie under the MGM banner. Lovely contrast between the bold red and black color palette even if the fashion isn’t always period accurate (the miniskirt black cocktail dresses??). This is another one that I’m shocked hasn’t been programmed for one of the marathons. Totally fits the bill (known actor, familiar story, English language, studio release).
Still early but one of the best of the unseen horror films for the this years 31 Days of Horror.
