Viewing Notes

closing my night with yet another Toler Charlie Chan flick and whaaaaaaaa… another cruise ship murder mystery?!?! This is super goofy with a cargo full of zoo animals headed to San Francisco + a scientist doctor with a living brain in a fish tank. What’s most cool is that it starts in Honolulu with Chan’s family so you get to see the full brood sitting around the dinner table.

Apparently this was the first Sidney Toler Chan film! There’s a bunch of cool extras on this DVD that I’m watching now including how Toler got the role after Warner Oland died. There’s also a lost film included which I’ll watch tomorrow.

There’s a restoration comparison which is really neat. I have commented before on how incredible these Chan films look on these DVDs. In 2007 they did restorations on these films and the difference is astounding.
